I’m on Twitter!

May 27, 2009 by Natasha

In December 2007 I listened to an interview by Rich Schefren with Gary Vuynerchuck.  Rich is a internet marketing guru and wrote ‘The Attention Age Doctrine’ ebook plus others.  This particluar ebook discusses social marketing and its benefits.  Gary has made a fortune with his wine business by capitalising on social marketing with his wine library TV.  The guy is a genius.

December 2007 seems like such a long time ago, but in reality it was only 18 months and in that short space of time social media has continued to catapult beyond belief.  Whilst I knew back then that this was the way forward, I had no idea how I too could capitalise on this new wave.  I must admit I’m still way behind but it is definitely an area that I am working on.

I’m a great fan of social & business networking sites, especially Facebook.  Having lived in many countries, I find it a great tool to keep up with friends that I would otherwise have lost contact with.  The only thing I don’t want to use facebook for is for my business, I like to keep my personal life personal.

I am registered on linkedin which I use predominantly to build my business networking club, BBOB (www.bbob.be) and I use XING, although very infrequently.  Other sites such as a small world and internations are great sites but I use them on very rare occassions.  If I’m honest I just can’t keep up with them all to utilise them efficiently and effectively.

My favourite at the moment is twitter.  In my opinion, It’s quick and easy to use and a must have for anyone and everyone.  I’ve made friends with likeminded people that I probably would never have met otherwise.  I can talk my business all day long and people are interested.  I’ve only been on there for a few weeks and already I have over 700 followers.  How on earth could you get to know that many people and keep up with them on a day to day basis without a tool like twitter!

I may have jumped on this band wagon later than most but I’m happy that I’ve finally caught on to a tincy wincy part of the social media frenzy!
